MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. “Help is Here” Tour Highlights How American Rescue Plan Helps Immediately With Direct Checks

  • This week, the President launched the “Help Is Here” tour to communicate directly and clearly with Americans about how the American Rescue Plan is helping them and their families, and making sure they understand how to utilize benefits available to them.

  • Today, the tour highlights the immediate help of direct checks.

  • In just a week, more than 90 million Americans have received their direct checks.

  • A typical family of four making $100,000 a year receives $5,600 in direct payments through the American Rescue Plan.

2. Biden-Harris Administration To Surpass Goal of 100 Million Vaccinations in First 100 Days Ahead of Schedule

  • Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is expected to surpass its goal of administering 100 million vaccinations in its first 100 days, reaching the goal 58 days in and weeks ahead of schedule.

  • In his address to the nation last week, President Biden announced that he would be directing all states to open vaccination eligibility to all American adults by May 1.

  • Despite Trump’s failures, President Biden is delivering for the American people and continues to ramp up vaccine production and distribution.

    • The U.S. is now administering an average of 2.5 million doses per day.

  • As of Wednesday, more than 75 million people in the United States had received at least one dose of the vaccine, including almost 41 million people who have been fully vaccinated.

NEWS OF THE DAY

3. Help is Here: The American Rescue Plan is Law

  • Last week, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law, and now help is here for the American people.

    • Democrats came together and answered the American people’s call for help.

  • House and Senate Republicans turned their back on the American people and played games with the relief package families need — and not a single one voted for the bill. This relief package is supported by a bipartisan majority of the public.

    • Poll after poll has found that the American Rescue Plan has broad support from the public.

  • Republicans must explain why they voted against a package that will help millions of Americans suffering from the effects of the public health and economic crises and why they think Americans do not deserve direct relief. The bill will:

    • Get money to those who are hurting with $1,400 checks to Americans and extended unemployment insurance.

    • Get more shots in arms with a national vaccination program.

    • Get children back in school with resources to reopen schools quickly and safely.

  • Beyond the toplines, the American Rescue Plan will also help communities by:

    • Cutting homelesness

    • Combating child hunger

    • Providing small business owners with risk capital

    • Making the largest investment in our history in Tribal governments and Native communities

    • Rescuing public transportation systems

4. Republicans Play Politics with the Border

  • Republicans for years — including the last four years — did nothing to help with the nation's immigration issues. Bottom line: The president has solutions and Republicans have excuses.

    • Republicans are not interested in solving the problem. If they were, they would welcome a conversation about the president’s immigration bill.

  • The president is taking action to repair the damage done by Trump’s disastrous policies and working to address the immediate challenge at the border.

    • The Biden-Harris administration was left to clean up the mess and to bring order and humanity back to the system. At week 8, the administration has:

      • Established a whole of government effort to identify more personnel and shelters where children can be cared for appropriately.

      • Re-started the Central American Minors program so children can apply for protection from their home country;

      • Sent a strong message to the region that now is not the time to come while they establish processes for people to apply from region;

      • Put in place COVID protocols for the Border Patrol and HHS workforce – and for immigrants coming into the country.

  • Americans want to see solutions on immigration. Just like the COVID package, Republicans are ignoring the will of the American people and their constituents and refusing to solve the problem.

  • Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress introduced President Biden’s U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, a common-sense approach to solving the immigration challenges our nation faces. This bill will:

    • Modernize our immigration system;

    • Prioritize keeping families together;

    • Grow our economy while ensuring workers are protected;

    • Responsibly and effectively manage our borders with smart and effective investments;

    • Address the root causes of migration from Central America;

    • Ensure that the United States continues to be a refuge for those escaping persecution.
