Recap: 2020 Fall DNC Meeting

Recap: 2020 Fall DNC Meeting

Dear DNC Member,

I hope you had a great week and that you enjoyed our first DNC Meeting conducted virtually. Thank you so much for taking the time to join us to hear the important updates as we head toward Election Day, when we will elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next President and Vice President.

As I like to do after all of our DNC meetings, I wanted to share a short summary of our meeting and provide some other important updates. You can watch a full recording of the meeting online on YouTube here.

To kick off our meeting, we heard an inspiring invocation from Sikh Activist Valarie Kaur. We then heard from our great Chair, Tom Perez, who reminded us of where we were in 2017 and how far the DNC has come over the past four years - from our historic investment in state parties, to our digital organizing, IWillVote.com, and our data infrastructure. All of this led to the strongest handoff of our national party to our candidate in our party's history.

We gained key campaign insights from Biden For President Campaign Manager Jen O’Malley Dillon, who reminded us that we need to continue to work hard every day no matter what is being said on the news or shown in the polls. We heard a rallying speech from Senator Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, and we heard from the three great state party chairs of Michigan, Kansas, and Pennsylvania on what is happening locally on the ground.

To close out the meeting, we received updates from the DNC’s Voter Protection and Political and Organizing Departments. Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation Karen Carter Peterson and Director of Voter Protection Reyna Walters-Morgan both spoke on the work being done to protect the vote. They reminded members to share IWillVote.com and the DNC’s Voter Protection hotline number (833-336-8683) with their networks. Reyna also shared a new website that was launched, MakeAPlan.com, which helps walk voters through the various ways they can vote in their state and helps them make a plan.

DNC Political & Organizing Director Muthoni Wambu-Kraal reminded members about the power of the personal story and encouraged individuals to use their voices to talk about the impact a Biden-Harris ticket would have on them. She also encouraged members to download and use the VOTE JOE app to reach out to their networks. This is a powerful tool to directly talk to people you know and get them to vote this election.

Finally, we heard from Reverend Eli Valentin who stirred us to have the strength to fight the good fight for justice.

As I mentioned during our meeting, we encourage all members, whether new or returning, to go in and update their Member Profile. This is something we do at the start of each new DNC term. When you update your information, you have the option to select which pieces you’d like shared with your fellow DNC members when they request a roster. While updating your profile you are able to select the Caucuses and Councils of which you’d like to be a member.

That is just a brief summary of our meeting from Wednesday. I hope you left it as inspired as I did to work even harder these last few weeks to secure victories up and down the ballot for our amazing Democratic candidates. Here are some additional ways to get involved in the last few weeks of this campaign.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I hope to see you out on the virtual campaign trail!

Yours,
Jason
