MESSAGE OF THE DAY
1. President-Elect Biden’s Plan To Fix Trump’s Failed Vaccine Distribution
Today, President-elect Biden will lay out his vaccine plan, including an ambitious goal to administer 100 million shots by the end of his first 100 days.
The president-elect will invoke the Defense Production Act to accelerate the making the vaccine, and work with Congress to secure necessary funding.
Trump’s administration failed to quickly distribute a vaccine, leaving Americans waiting.
Only about 11 million Americans have been vaccinated — half of the 20 million Trump’s administration promised to have completed two weeks ago.
Trump’s vaccine rollout is failing for the same reason his entire COVID response has failed: absence of leadership, inconsistent messaging, and a lack of coordination.
For months, states warned they didn’t have enough resources, but Trump held up funding by delaying the COVID relief package.
Trump’s pandemic response has failed.
More than 3 million Americans were infected and more than 42,000 died in just the first two weeks of January.
2. President-Elect Biden Lays Out American Rescue Plan After 10 Million Jobs Lost Last Year Under Trump
Yesterday, President-elect Biden laid out his $1.9 trillion plan to quickly contain the virus and get relief to workers. His American Rescue Plan will:
Get $2,000 direct relief checks to Americans
Increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour
Support for small businesses
Provide funding for vaccines, testing, and schools
Last month, the U.S. lost 140,000 jobs as Trump did nothing to contain the pandemic and Republicans delayed relief to working families.
In December, the economy lost jobs for the first time since April as COVID surged.
And last week, new unemployment claims soared to nearly 1 million — four times higher than the pre-pandemic average.
Trump inherited a booming economy from the Obama-Biden administration, and he tanked it. He is leaving President-elect Biden with one of the worst economic crises in decades.
The Obama-Biden economy Trump inherited had gained 11.6 million jobs, and was adding hundreds of thousands of jobs a month.
Trump’s economy lost 10 million jobs in the past year alone, and is continuing to lose jobs.
NEWS OF THE DAY
3. Trump Impeached To Protect Our Democracy
Trump’s days as president are numbered. Americans rejected him in November.
In his final days in office, Trump incited an insurrection in an attempt to overturn the will of the people.
Trump remains a clear and present danger to the Constitution and our democracy.
This week, Democrats and Republicans came together in a bipartisan vote to hold Trump accountable and impeach him a second time.
This was the most bipartisan impeachment of a president in history — with a record 10 members of Trump’s own party voting to impeach him.
Trump is the only president in American history to be impeached twice.
President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris will work over the next four years to restore democracy and respect for the rule of law.
The Senate must find a way to deal with their constitutional responsibilities while also working on the other urgent business of the nation, including national security confirmations, funding vaccine distribution, and getting relief to working families.
