MESSAGE OF THE DAY
1. DNC Unveils New Billboards About the American Rescue Plan Across the Country
Today, the Democratic National Committee unveiled a new advertising campaign featuring billboards in high-traffic areas in twenty states across the country thanking President Biden and Democratic senators for delivering much-needed relief to Americans through the American Rescue Plan.
Because of their leadership, more than 100 million vaccine doses have been administered and more than 127 million direct stimulus payments of up to $1,400 per person have already been delivered to the American people.
The billboards will also remind people that their Republican senators opposed sending help their way.
The new billboard campaign is the latest step the DNC has taken to make sure Americans know that help is here with President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, a package that is overwhelmingly popular with a bipartisan majority of voters.
Last week, the DNC launched a daylong digital advertising campaign taking over several local newspaper websites in battleground states.
In March, digital billboards and TV ads went up across the country — including a billboard in Times Square — to highlight how President Biden and Democrats have delivered important, tangible results for Americans and their families by making the American Rescue Plan a reality.
2. President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and the Economic Recovery
Last week, President Biden outlined the first of two packages to rebuild our economy and create good-paying, union jobs for American workers.
President Biden believes this is the moment to reimagine and rebuild a new American economy. The American Jobs Plan will create millions of good-paying jobs, rebuild our country’s infrastructure, and position the United States to out-compete China.
There is no reason why the United States should rank 13th globally in overall infrastructure quality and is outspent by competitors on research and development.
This is a once-in-a-century capital investment in America to not only meet our current infrastructure needs – like rebuilding crumbling roads and bridges and making sure every American has access to broadband and clean water – but also investing in research and development, so that we can make 21st century products in the U.S. and sell them around the world.
Unlike investments of the past - we are not going to leave behind communities that have been systematically excluded for generations, including communities of color and rural communities.
Our investments will allow us to take on the climate crisis and move to a clean energy economy.
President Biden proposed a tax code that rewards work, not wealth, and pays for this agenda.
In mid-April, President Biden will announce the second part of his recovery agenda, focused on helping families with challenges like health care costs, child care, paid leave, and education.
The March jobs report is the latest encouraging sign that President Biden’s leadership is getting the country back on track, showing 916,000 jobs were added to the economy last month and the unemployment rate dropped to 6.0%. This is a signal that with the effective distribution of the vaccine and the aid in the American Rescue Plan, Americans across the country are beginning to go back to work; while these numbers are good news, the economy is still on the road to recovery.
There is still work to be done to ensure that our economy can come back stronger:
The economy still has nearly 8.5 million fewer jobs than before the recession.
About 4.2 million Americans have been unemployed for more than half a year.
3. The Biden-Harris Administration Sets New Goal of 200 Million Vaccinations in First 100 Days
President Biden announced a new goal of administering 200 million vaccinations in the first 100 days of his presidency, after surpassing the original goal of 100 million vaccinations on day 58 of the Biden-Harris administration.
Despite Trump’s failures, President Biden is delivering for the American people and continues to ramp up vaccine production and distribution.
The U.S. is now administering an average of more than 3 million doses per day.
On Saturday, the U.S. broke the record for most vaccine doses administered in 24 hours with more than 4 million doses.
As of Sunday, more than 106 million people in the United States had received at least one dose of the vaccine, including more than 61 million people who have been fully vaccinated.
NEWS OF THE DAY
4. Help is Here: The American Rescue Plan
Republicans must explain why they voted against a package that will help millions of Americans suffering from the effects of the public health and economic crises and why they think Americans do not deserve direct relief.
We’re already seeing some Republicans try to take credit for the American Rescue Plan’s benefits to their constituents, even though every single one of them voted against it.
The American Rescue Plan will:
Get money to those who are hurting with $1,400 checks to Americans and extended unemployment insurance.
85% of American households will receive checks of up to $1,400 per person.
A typical family of four making $100,000 a year is receiving $5,600 in direct payments through the American Rescue Plan.
More than 100 million Americans have already received their checks.
Get more shots in arms with a national vaccination program.
Get children back in school with resources to reopen schools quickly and safely.
Cut homelesness.
Combat child hunger and poverty.
Provide small business owners with risk capital.
Make the largest investment in our history in Tribal governments and Native communities.
Rescue public transportation systems across the country.
5. Republicans Play Politics with the Border
Republicans for years — including the last four years — did nothing to help with the nation's immigration issues. Bottom line: The president has solutions and Republicans have excuses. Trump’s only plan over the last four years was to make our immigration system cruel and dysfunctional.
Republicans are not interested in solving the problem. If they were, they would welcome a conversation about the president’s immigration bill.
President Biden tapped Vice President Harris to lead the federal government’s work with partners in Central America to address the root causes of migration.
A report highlighted how Trump administration officials “were sitting on their hands” and refused to heed calls from Biden transition officials to increase capacity for child migrants.
The Biden-Harris administration is taking action to clean up the mess created by Trump’s disastrous policies and to bring humanity and order back to the system.
The Biden-Harris administration was left to clean up the mess and to bring order and humanity back to the system. The administration has already:
Established a whole of government effort to identify more personnel and shelters where children can be cared for appropriately.
Re-started the Central American Minors program so children can apply for protection from their home country;
Sent a strong message to the region that now is not the time to come while they establish processes for people to apply from region;
Put in place COVID protocols for the Border Patrol and HHS workforce – and for immigrants coming into the country.
Americans want to see solutions on immigration. Just like they did with the COVID package, Republicans are ignoring the will of the American people and their constituents and refusing to solve the problem.
