DAILY TALKING POINTSJuly Jobs Report Shows Bidenomics is Working After Trump’s Failures

  • Today’s jobs report is yet another sign that Bidenomics is working:

    • 187,000 jobs created in July,

    • Unemployment rate fell to 3.5% – under 4% for 18 months in a row, the longest stretch in over 50 years,

    • Share of prime working age Americans who have jobs is near a 20-year high,

    • As of June, wages are higher than a year ago, accounting for inflation.

  • Today’s report is the latest in a string of strong economic indicators:

    • GDP report showed the economy grew at a 2.4% rate last quarter – beating expectations, with business investment increasing by nearly 8%,

    • Morgan Stanley credited the president’s economic plan – Bidenomics – for “much stronger” than expected growth this year,

    • Consumer confidence jumped to a two-year high,

    • The PCE report showed annual inflation is at its lowest rate in nearly two years.

  • Since President Biden took office, his economic plan – Bidenomics – has been growing our economy from the bottom up and middle out:

    • The U.S. has seen the highest economic growth among leading economies since the pandemic,

    • About 13.3 million jobs created,

    • Manufacturing coming back with nearly 800,000 new manufacturing jobs created, with companies investing in communities often left behind,

    • Annual inflation falling for 12 straight months - to the lowest level in 2 years,

    • Historically low unemployment rate for the longest period in more than 50 years,

    • Reached record low unemployment rate for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and people with disabilities,

    • Share of women aged 25 to 54 in the workforce is at a 70-year high,

    • More small businesses created in first two years of this presidency than ever before,

    • Bipartisan Infrastructure Law rebuilding roads and bridges, creating good-paying jobs, and spurring economic development,

    • Inflation Reduction Act lowering the cost of prescription drugs and health care, tackling climate change, and making investments in clean energy.

  • And people are starting to feel it:

    • About 3/4 of Americans are satisfied with their financial well being,

    • Job satisfaction is at a record high.

  • Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s presidency showed what MAGA control of our economy looks like, and we can’t go back. His record speaks for itself:

    • Left office with the worst jobs record since the Great Depression,

    • Proposed cuts to Medicare and Social Security programs every year he was in office,

    • Blew up the deficit to give massive tax cuts that rigged the economy for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations,

    • Created incentives to ship jobs overseas,

    • Turned “infrastructure week” into a punchline that he failed to deliver.

TRUMP DOWNGRADE: MAGA Republicans’ Agenda Damages U.S. Credit

  • Earlier this week, Fitch issued a Trump downgrade as a direct result of an extreme MAGA Republican agenda defined by chaos, callousness, and recklessness that Americans continue to reject.

  • The ratings model used by Fitch declined under President Trump, and then improved under President Biden.

  • It’s no surprise why: Donald Trump oversaw the loss of millions of American jobs, and ballooned the deficit with disastrous tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations.

  • As Fitch noted, the downgrade is a consequence of Republicans’ repeated pushes toward a default as well as the January 6 insurrection:

  • Republicans’ lavish tax giveaways, in 2017, to the wealthy and big corporations, are also a key contributor to the high deficits cited by Fitch. President Trump increased the deficit every single year he was in office.

  • In contrast, President Biden has reversed or addressed Trump and MAGA Republicans’ actions, presiding over the strongest economic recovery of any G7 nation.

    • Biden brought both parties together around a bipartisan budget agreement that protected our country’s ability to pay its bills and reduces deficits by nearly $1 trillion,

    • Morgan Stanley is crediting Biden's economic policies with driving an unexpected surge in the U.S. economy so significant they made a "sizable upward revision" to its estimates for GDP,

    • The CEO of US Steel said Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act is spurring manufacturers to return to the US in droves, calling these policies “the most amazing thing we’ve seen in the United States for a very long time.”

  • Failed leadership has consequences. This Trump downgrade is just the latest one, and voters know we cannot afford to go back to MAGA control.

Vice President Harris on the Front Lines of Fighting GOP Attacks on Freedom

  • Vice President Harris is a fearless and effective messenger who is calling out the extremism that has become symptomatic of today’s Republican Party and fighting to protect the interests of everyday Americans.

  • The vice president has traveled across the country – and is currently on a month-long swing – where she has addressed key voting groups and forcefully spoken out against MAGA Republicans’ attacks on Americans’ freedoms. A few examples:

    • This week in Florida, she once again rejected MAGA Republicans’ attempts to promote the “benefits” of slavery.

    • In Iowa, she criticized the state’s extreme abortion ban and discussed the impacts of extreme abortion bans in the wake of Dobbs as MAGA Republicans double down on support for a national ban,

    • In Massachusetts, she attended the NAACP national convention where she called out extremist Republicans’ attacks on fundamental freedoms like the right to vote,

  • As Republican presidential hopefuls continue their race for the MAGA base, the vice president will continue to call out their attacks on Americans’ fundamental rights including the right to vote, reproductive freedom, and the freedom to learn and teach America’s full history.

State of the 2024 GOP Field

  • 2024 Republicans continue to prove that whoever the nominee is, they are guaranteed to be too extreme and out of touch for American families.

  • These hopefuls are all embracing the most extreme positions in order to win over the MAGA base. Three key toplines:

    • The GOP field continues to threaten health care for millions and put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block,

    • Every GOP contender has an extreme anti-choice record and support for a federal ban has become a litmus test in their primary,

    • GOP contenders have embraced some of the most dangerous elements of their party, such as banning books, denying free and fair elections, and choosing the NRA over public safety.

  • Just this week, 2024 Republicans put their extremism on full display:

    • Tim Scott and Mike Pence are bending over backward to earn the support anti-abortion extremists and doubling down on their support for a national abortion ban,

    • In yet another example of his putting politics before our troops, Donald Trump is campaigning alongside extremist Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is actively undermining our military and threatening our national security by blocking military promotions,

    • Ron DeSantis’ economic policy rollout was another flop from his flailing campaign. DeSantis can’t spin his failed economic record in Florida: housing prices skyrocketing, some of the highest inflation in the country, and blocking thousands of Floridians from getting affordable health care.
