Caucuses

Caucuses

Democrats Abroad sponsors caucus groups, which exist to engage members with a particular area of interest in campaigns, initiatives and advocacy projects. All Democrats Abroad members are welcome to join!

Global Women’s Caucus

The Women's Caucus of Democrats Abroad is committed to fostering and promoting gender-informed perspectives in issues analysis, communication and policy-making and ensuring that issues that impact women. We will take action to address policies that negatively impact women and their families and so, by implication, the economy and our democracy.

Global Black Caucus

The Global Black Caucus is made up of DA members of all races and ethnicities from around the world who are willing and able to advocate on issues important to Black Americans. The Global Black Caucus provides a forum for all DA members to better understand the issues and concerns affecting Black Americans, to help eliminate unconscious bias within the DA membership and in America, to help engage with Black voters living abroad and ensure that their needs are met within the DA community, and, where needed, to advocate for reforms to political issues. We encourage and facilitate Black Americans abroad to engage, become informed, and exercise their voting franchise.

Global LGBTQ+  Caucus

The LGBTQIA Caucus is the constituency group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual members and any Democrat abroad who supports them. The caucus’ initiative is to engage and empower LGBTQIA Americans living abroad to vote in US elections, provide them a platform to advance issues at the heart of the community, and support members issues they face living abroad as LGBTIA Americans, such as access to government services and benefits for same-sex spouses and family members, the legacy resulting from past discrimination and Defense of Marriage Act.

Global Progressive Caucus

The Progressive Caucus (ProDA) embraces policies that will proactively advance the United States toward a society rooted in economic fairness and social, racial, and environmental justice, particularly for the most vulnerable people in our society; seek increased transparency, fairness and accountability in political processes; and support international cooperation, peace, and mutual respect.

Structure

DA China Country Caucus Chairs

The Country caucus chairs and co-chairs act as the leader for the country’s caucuses, and are appointed by the Country Chair and the Global Caucus Liaison. Further, the Caucus Chairs are responsible for setting the monthly agenda for their caucuses, and also providing monthly updates to the GCL so they may report directly to the leadership board. The Caucus Chairs must ensure to include both the Country Chair and the Global Caucus Liaison in all email correspondence, WeChat groups, or other group chats to ensure transparency, but to also allow the GCL to help further assist the Caucus chairs. If the chairs need any support they should contact the Global Caucus liaison for assistance.

Global Caucus Liaison

The Global Caucus Liaison is a member of the leadership board that serves as the point of contact between the country caucuses and the Global caucuses, as well as, the country leadership board. The GCL also works with the Global Caucuses to promote their agenda while aiding the direction of the caucuses at the country level. The GCL also acts as the support for country caucuses by providing them with resources, information, and assistance of any kind that may promote their initiatives.

Volunteers

The caucuses are only able to function, because of our rockstar volunteers. If any Democrats Abroad member would like to volunteer they should first read up on our volunteer onboarding and then reach out to our Caucus Chairs.
