Dear Adrianne, Today President Joe Biden has taken his first step in keeping a promise he made to the voters in 2020 on the campaign trail. He has nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson to be our next Supreme Court Justice. When confirmed, she will be the first African American woman to serve on the Supreme Court in our nation's history. Our country was established on the belief that we can make our union more perfect. In 2020 this is precisely why so many of us voted for President Biden. Now we must now stand up collectively in every city and speak our truth to power. Republicans began tearing down Ketanji Brown Jackson before she was even nominated. Now our voices must be so loud and amplified that those in the United States Senate hear our demand that Ketanji Brown Jackson be confirmed to the Supreme Court and make history! This is our moment to demonstrate the power of local Democrats; by writing op-eds, holding press conferences with other elected officials and community groups, interviews with media, social media campaigns, and any other way you and your community can support our Supreme Court nominee.

Bio - Ketanji Brown Jackson: Who is she? — Jackson studied government at Harvard University, graduating in 1992. She also received her law degree from Harvard in 1996. — Jackson clerked for three federal jurists, including a district court judge in Massachusetts, an appellate judge in the 1st Circuit and Breyer himself. — Earlier in her legal career, Jackson worked as an assistant federal public defender in Washington, D.C., where she worked on appellate cases, and served as vice chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission for several years. — President Barack Obama nominated Jackson for a district court judgeship in D.C. near the end of his first term as president, and she was confirmed in early 2013. He also interviewed her as a potential nominee after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016. — Biden nominated her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in March 2021, as part of one of his early slates of nominees, and she was formally elevated last summer. — As a district court judge, Jackson issued several high-profile rulings. In 2019 she ruled against the Trump administration’s attempt to shield former White House counsel Don McGahn from testifying before Congress, writing that “presidents are not kings.” |
Today in Black History, President Biden nominated the Honorable Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson to become the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court!

Dear DNC Member, Please see below for the DNC's press release on President Biden's historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the United States Supreme Court. Yours, ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement regarding President Biden’s intent to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court:
“Judge Jackson will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Court. Her experience as a public defender will add a vital perspective. In short, Judge Jackson will live up to the legacy of Justice Breyer and the other qualified jurists that have served and continue to serve on the Supreme Court. I fully expect the Senate will agree and confirm Judge Jackson with bipartisan support — as they have three times before. “Judge Jackson will also shatter a longstanding glass ceiling in the judicial branch of our government. America’s greatest strength is the nation’s diversity. Our government works best when it represents and reflects the diverse people it serves. For too long, Black women have not seen themselves represented on our nation’s highest court — a court that renders decisions that affect their daily lives on everything from reproductive freedom to voting rights. “When the Senate confirms Judge Jackson, that will finally change. I am so excited for the country to be reminded once again that there is nothing a Black woman cannot do. She can be vice president. She can shape the future of our nation. And yes, she can serve on the Supreme Court.” |

Hi Adrianne!
Hope I'll get to see you at the meeting in DC - would love to catch up.
I'm writing because, as you know, DNC elections for Councils and Caucuses are coming up at the March meeting, and I am running for re-election as Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council. And I would like to earn the honor of your support.
I am proud of the crucial work the Council has done in the two years since our launch to turn out and elect Democrats, uphold President Biden’s climate agenda, and advocate for bold, science-based climate and environmental justice policy that creates millions of good union jobs.
With a diverse, inclusive and stellar leadership team, I have led the growth of the Climate Council as it has become one of the DNC's most active, powerful councils and caucuses. My reelection will help ensure the Council’s momentum continues and that climate and environmental justice are winning issues for Democrats in 2022 and 2024. And that is why I am seeking your support. My campaign website and endorsements are here. I would more than welcome getting on the phone to hear your thoughts and talk through.
Warm best wishes,
Michelle
