DAILY TALKING POINTS

Project 2025: Scenes from The Handmaid’s Tale in Trump’s America

  • Donald Trump and his allies have openly embraced an extreme agenda that threatens every American’s rights and freedoms.

  • Yesterday, new reporting from Politico detailed how Trump’s team planning for his second term is planning an agenda with the help of an extremist who publicly advocates for the overturning of same-sex marriage, the restriction of access to contraceptives, the end of surrogacy, and the termination of sex education in schools.

    • It comes on the heels of additional reporting about Trump’s private plans to ban abortion nationwide, with his allies plotting how to unilaterally restrict access – circumventing Congress.

  • We already saw how damaging a first Trump term was for Americans’ rights and freedoms: As he brags, he was “the one” to overturn Roe, instituted a racist Muslim ban, and tried to overturn the will of the people, encouraging thousands of his supporters to march to the Capitol on January 6.

  • Trump’s plans for a second term are not hypothetical: they are a blueprint for what he would do if elected. We should take him at his word.

  • The stakes for 2024 have never been higher.

President Biden Announces Another $1.2 Billion in Student Loan Forgiveness – Meanwhile, Trump Won’t Address the Student Debt Crisis

  • Today, President Biden is announcing that the Biden-Harris administration will grant $1.2 billion in loan forgiveness for nearly 153,000 borrowers currently enrolled in President Biden’s Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan.

  • Today’s announcement brings the total approved debt cancellation by the Biden-Harris administration to almost $138 billion for nearly 3.9 million Americans.

  • This life-changing relief will particularly help borrowers who attended community college, low-income borrowers, and borrowers struggling to pay their loans.

  • Despite Republicans trying to stand in the way, President Biden will never stop fighting to give borrowers breathing room and to provide relief to as many borrowers as possible.

  • It’s a stark contrast with Donald Trump, who has a long record of opposing efforts to address the student debt crisis:

    • Trump has praised his Supreme Court appointees for blocking President Biden’s student loan relief plan.

    • As president, Trump tried to cut funding for college affordability programs, including Pell Grants.

    • And he has called to eliminate the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and the entire Department of Education, which administers student debt relief.

Donald Trump Is Doubling Down On Dangerous Promise to Abandon NATO

  • Last week, Donald Trump reminded the American people how dangerous and unfit he is for office when he suggested he would abandon America’s NATO allies in the event of a Russian attack — going so far as to “encourage” Russia “to do whatever the hell they want.”

    • And despite the widespread, bipartisan condemnation, Trump continued doubling down on his dumb, dangerous, and un-American attack against NATO.

  • NATO is an alliance that protects America and the world. It’s built on the fundamental principles of freedom, security, and national sovereignty.

    • America’s leadership and steadfast support for NATO helps keep us safe here at home. When our country was under attack after 9/11, it was NATO that stood with us and provided international support.

  • But Trump would rather side with dictators than stand for democracy.

  • His remarks were the latest in a worrying series of Trump siding with Putin to undermine America’s strength on the world stage and threatening to make our country less safe.

  • And it’s part of a larger pattern for Donald Trump:

    • Trump has repeatedly praised authoritarians and dictators and criticized our allies.

    • Top American military generals, including those who served during his own administration, have condemned Trump as “dangerous” and “unfit” for office because of his failure to lead on the world stage.

  • It’s a stark contrast to President Biden’s strong and steady leadership that has restored American leadership on the world stage.

    • He strengthened NATO, and rallied the world to stand with Ukraine in the face of Putin’s aggression to defend the future of democracy.

  • The bottom line: There is only one candidate with the experience and temperament to lead – and that is Joe Biden.
