Dear DNC Member, Please see below for a message from Women's Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford regarding a few follow up items from the virtual meeting which took place on May 19th.
Yours, Jason –––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Jason Rae Secretary Democratic National Committee xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Hello Women’s Caucus Members, The past few weeks have been filled with heartbreaking news. Our hearts are heavy with grief as our country mourns the senseless loss of lives in Uvalde, TX, Tulsa, OK and Buffalo, NY. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities, and we must continue to demand action from elected officials and to hold those who refuse to protect our communities accountable. On a lighter note, happy Pride Month! We wanted to make sure you had all of the resources necessary to organize with the DNC. Pride Month is both a time of celebration and a critical time that we remember all of the organizers and activists who fought for LGBTQ+ people to achieve the rights they have today. Click here for DNC LGBTQ Caucus resources! Thank you to those who were able to join us on Thursday, May 19 for a virtual meeting. Below you will find some topline meeting notes. SCOTUS & Reproductive Rights In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s draft ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, the DNC is continuing to plan for the Supreme Court’s final decision. Please be on the lookout for additional information, and utilize our Protecting Roe Organizing Resources in the meantime. RBC “First In The Nation” Update This cycle, RBC members have committed to taking a critical look at all aspects of the nominating process, including how the pre-window states are selected. To that end, the committee agreed to select up to five states to hold early contests based on a set of criteria that include diversity, competitiveness in the general election, and the ability to administer a transparent and verifiable process. Click here to see an overview of the process and the RBC resolution. DNC Summer Meeting: Thursday, September 8 to Saturday, September 10, 2022 Chair Yvette Lewis and the Maryland Democratic Party will host the Summer DNC Meeting in Maryland at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. The Women's Caucus meeting is usually held during that Friday. Please be on the lookout for an email from Secretary Rae about a room block. This meeting will cover how the convention will operate, how delegates will get to go to convention, and the presidential primary schedule. Voter Registration Microgrants The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is pleased to announce our Community Engagement Grant Project. Community stakeholders and small grassroots organizations that work with coalition communities (Black, Latino, AAPI, Native, women, youth, disability, LGBTQ+, rural, etc.) can apply for microgrants to conduct voter registration and voter education in their communities. These grants should be used to support existing work and assist with resources for community events. The individual microgrants will be $500 per recipient and small organizational grants will be up to $2,500. There are limited grants that will be awarded on a rolling basis after applications are submitted. Please share this application process with any members of your community or organizations you work with. Sincerely, Chair Lottie Shackelford DNC Women’s Caucus |
