BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WEEK AHEAD

TOP TIDBITS
  1. Last night, President Biden addressed the nation on the horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Watch HERE.

  2. Just days after a gunman murdered 21 people in Texas, Donald Trump and Republican leaders are making clear they stand with the gun lobby over our children.

Senator Ted Cruz, Governors Greg Abbott and Kristi Noem, and Donald Trump are still scheduled to headline the NRA convention this week.

Follow @DNCWarRoom on Twitter for real-time callouts of the Republican Party that is clearly beholden to the NRA instead of protecting our children.

  3. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued this statement in response to yesterday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

  4. Today, President Biden will sign a historic executive order (EO) to advance effective, accountable policing and criminal justice practices that will build public trust and strengthen public safety.

President Biden’s EO will enhance public trust by promoting accountability, transparency, and the principles of equality and dignity in policing and the larger criminal justice system. The EO mandates measures for all federal law enforcement agencies, leveraging the president’s direct authority over the executive branch. The EO also requires the use of federal tools such as guidance on best practices, training and technical assistance, and grantmaking to support reforms at state, tribal, local, and territorial law enforcement agencies that will strengthen public trust and improve public safety across the nation.

Read more about this EO HERE.

FROM THE DNC WAR ROOM

DNC War Room: Trump, Cruz, Abbott, Noem Choose Gun Lobby Over Kids
 FROM THE CHAIR'S DESK

@harrisonjaime: One of the hardest things to do is dropping your kids off at school & not being there to protect them. My heart & mind can’t fathom the pain, fear, grief & anger these families are experiencing. These poor babies! We just can’t continue to live this way.

@harrisonjaime: Not another life… child… school, store or house of worship should be threaten by gun violence. Fill the Senate gallery … fill state houses lobbies w/ the families victimized by gun violence.  Let lawmakers look them in their eyes & explain why they can’t act now!

Content from last night and this morning on DNC platforms:

“As a nation, we have to ask: When, in God’s name, are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When, in God’s name, will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?” President Biden is right—when? @TheDemocrats (Twitter), (Facebook)

“I had hoped that when I became president I would not have to do this again.” President Biden shares the pain, frustration, and grief families across our country are feeling right now. @TheDemocrats (Twitter), (Facebook)

To lose a child is to have a piece of your soul ripped away. It is never quite the same. And it’s the feeling shared by the siblings, grandparents, families, and communities left behind. I ask the nation to pray for them, to give them strength in the darkness they feel. @JoeBiden (Twitter)

Schools are supposed to be a place of learning and fun with friends, a place where every parent can send their children and know they will come home safe and sound. We can't continue to live this way. We owe our children more than thoughts and prayers. We owe them action. @TheDemocrats (Twitter)

Heartwrenching speech from @ChrisMurphyCT: “What are we doing?”@TheDemocrats (Twitter), (Facebook)

@POTUS: We know common sense gun laws can’t and won’t prevent every tragedy. But we know they work and have a positive impact.
When we passed the assault weapons ban — mass shootings went down.
When the law expired — mass shootings tripled.

@POTUS: For every parent, for every citizen, we have to make it clear to every elected official: It’s time for action.
We can do more. We must do more. [VIDEO]

@POTUS: As a nation we must ask: When in God’s name will we stand up to the gun lobby?
When in God’s name will we do what needs to be done?
I’m sick and tired of it. We have to act.

@POTUS: These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it?
It’s time to turn this pain into action.

@ABCPolitics: Sen. Chris Murphy delivers remarks on Uvalde, Texas elementary school shooting: “What are we doing? What are we doing?…This only happens in this country and nowhere else. Nowhere else do little kids go to school thinking that they might be shot that day." abcn.ws/3sVDH2F [VIDEO]

@GMA: Second "Operation Fly Formula" shipment set to arrive in the U.S. on Wednesday. @eriellereshef has more. gma.abc/2UKP3ch [VIDEO]
