Please help amplify this announcement. President Biden announced the second Operation Fly Formula flight had been contracted for later this week. The flight will transport 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start® Extensive HA infant formula. Together, these two flights will have transported the equivalent of 1.5 million 8 oz bottles. Read more from the White House on the second Operation Fly Formula flight HERE. President Biden also announced the first two Defense Production Act authorizations for infant formula. These authorizations will allow Abbott Nutrition to increase production by over one third compared to where it stands today and allow Reckitt to operate their facilities at maximum capacity. Read more from the White House HERE. Last week, in a stunning display of callousness and cruelty, MAGA House Republicans voted against critical funding to help boost the supply of baby formula. While President Biden and Democrats are taking action to address the shortage, Republican extremists have proven – yet again – that they would rather stand in the way of helping American families. Despite Republicans feigning concern about the baby formula shortage, the vast majority of House Republicans actually voted AGAINST funding to address it.
FROM THE DNC WAR ROOM@DNCWarRoom: Republicans aren’t even trying to hide it. Across the country, ultra-MAGA candidates are embracing total abortion bans with NO EXCEPTIONS for rape or incest. @DNCWarRoom: Let’s be very, VERY clear here – There is no “rupture.” @Mike_Pence spent YEARS proudly serving as Donald Trump’s sidekick, and to this day, Pence remains a proud champion of Trump’s extreme MAGA agenda, which hurt millions of families in Georgia and around the country. [ARTICLE] @POTUS: I have an update on Operation Fly Formula. We have secured a second flight to transport Nestlé specialty infant formula to Pennsylvania. The flight and trucking will take place in the coming days, and I will continue to keep you updated. TALKING POINTS1. Biden-Harris Administration Announces Second Operation Fly Formula Flight Yesterday, we saw notable progress in President Biden’s efforts to address the infant formula shortage caused by Abbott Nutrition’s voluntary recall. Yesterday, the first Operation Fly Formula flight landed in Indiana with more than 70,000 pounds of specialty formula. The president announced the second Operation Fly Formula flight had been contracted for later this week. The flight will transport 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start® Extensive HA infant formula. Together, these two flights will have transported the equivalent of 1.5 million 8 oz bottles. These formulas have been prioritized because they serve a critical medical purpose and are in short supply in the United States because of the Abbott Sturgis plant closure. The president also announced that Secretary Becerra has authorized the first two “priority orders” under the Defense Production Act, which the president invoked last week. That means these infant formula manufacturers can now begin to add legally-binding language to their orders with suppliers that will give these formula manufacturers priority over other customers and allow them to speed up production. One authorization will allow Abbott Nutrition to receive priority orders of raw materials like sugar and corn syrup for infant formula. The other will allow Reckitt to receive priority orders for consumables like single-use products such as filters.
President Biden knows that parents across the country are worried about finding enough infant formula to feed their babies, and the Biden-Harris administration will continue working around the clock to increase formula production and keep store shelves stocked during the Abbott Nutrition voluntary recall.
Republicans’ Extreme War Against Abortion Access
Republicans are desperately trying to ignore and distract from their decades long war to take away abortion access. In an interview, Mitch McConnell confirmed that a federal abortion ban is “possible” under Republican control. Not only are Republicans hellbent on gutting reproductive rights, they’re standing on the side of dangerous policies that put millions of pregnant people at risk. Mitch McConnell came right out and said it - Republican majorities would be interested in banning abortions nationally. While Democrats want to protect the right to an abortion and keep these decisions between a woman and her doctor, Republicans have tirelessly prioritized taking away that right, advocating for a dangerous and harmful agenda. Already MAGA Republican governors and state legislatures have made clear what overturning Roe could look like — throwing doctors in jail and banning abortion with NO exceptions for rape and incest. If Roe is overturned, two dozen states have laws on the books to throw doctors in jail or punish abortion providers. Ending Roe means as many as 26 states could move quickly to ban abortion – including 13 states with “trigger” laws that could immediately go into effect – leaving tens of millions of Americans without control over their own bodies. Republicans’ MAGA agenda is wildly out of touch and unpopular with the American people. About two-thirds of Americans say Roe v. Wade should be upheld. A Washington Post-ABC poll found that 75% of people say decisions on abortion should be left to the woman and her doctor, including 95% of Democrats, 81% of independents and 53% of Republicans. Gallup polling shows that 80% of the American public thinks abortion should be legal in at least some circumstances.
We are facing a pivotal moment for abortion access in our country and this November, every Republican lawmaker will have to answer for their party’s relentless attacks on Americans’ rights.
