Sample Script for VFA Videos + Tips

Votefromabroad videos don't need to be long to make an impact. Here's a sample script we often give to candidates and influencers to riff from, plus some extras to consider adding. We invite them to edit at will - as long as they mention Americans abroad AND votefromabroad.org. And of course, we reserve the right to not use a video if it is not appropriate.

Hi, I'm (name) and (introduce self, position running for, etc). This election is too important to miss (explain why you think so), which is why I'm asking you - as an American abroad, to make sure you have requested your ballot this year so you can vote. Just go to votefromabroad.org and request your ballot. Together we can make a difference.

Extras to consider adding:

  • Your vote counts. Votes from abroad make the difference in elections every year.
  • The votefromabroad team is ready to help you with any questions you have.
  •  You can vote back in the US using the address where you last lived, even if you are no longer connected to that address.
  • Americans abroad need to request a ballot every calendar year they'd like to vote in.

Tips for making a video

  1. Use a tripod or set your phone on a stable location to record.
  2. Turn your phone so that the video is recorded horizontally rather than vertically.
  3. Once recorded, send the link to the video to your DA contact, who will forward it to our comms team at comms@democratsabroad.org to download and adjust.
