Onboarding Instructions for DA Comms

Welcome! Please follow the below instructions to begin volunteering with DA Comms. Some instructions will be specific to the team you are joining, and this is noted in the instructions.

Note: Global Comms Volunteers refers to those volunteering with DA Global Comms, which is separate from Global Caucus and Task Force Comms teams.

  1. Join Democrats Abroad, if you aren’t already a member! You must be a member to volunteer with us.

  2. Fill out a Confidentiality Agreement and send it to ConfAgree@democratsabroad.org.

    1. [For non-Global Comms volunteers] CC the person onboarding you.

    2. [For Global Comms volunteers] CC comms@democratsabroad.org.

  3. Fill out the DA Volunteer Norms Agreement.

  4. Review the 2026 DA Comms Onboarding document to learn more about the team, our messages, and how we work together for maximum impact.

  5. Download our 2 Brand Books and review both.

  6. Join Mighty Networks and make sure you are a member of the Comms Announcement Channel. Watch our walkthrough of how to use Mighty Networks here.

  7. Remember to register for the monthly DA Comms Folks call - published on Mighty events.

    1. [Global Comms Volunteers only] email comms@democratsabroad.org to ask to be added to the regular global calls.

  8. Review the Comms Wiki for other resources useful to your new role.

  9. Skip to the relevant section below.

Note: This does not cover Events management, which is separate from Comms. Please refer to the Resistance Support page and email events@democratsabroad.org for support.

Social Media Manager

  1. [Global Comms Volunteers only] If you are part of the Global Comms team, ask to be added to the relevant Signal and Mighty Networks channels.

  2. If you will be creating any original content for your platforms, sign up for the next Brand Book and Visual Identity Workshop (published on the Comms Announcement Mighty).

  3. Find your platform’s best practices and strategy documents.

  4. Open and bookmark the 2026 Social Media Content Calendar. This will be updated weekly with a variety of content by the Global Comms team. If you ever want to have your posts shared on all DA platforms, email graphics@democratsabroad.org and we will work with you to get it on the calendar.

  5. [Caucus and CC Volunteers only] Make sure to download the relevant DA badges and banners for your caucus or country committee. Remember to never edit or add to the banners and social media badges - if you need a change to your logo set please fill in a Graphics Team Work Order Form.

  6. [Caucus and CC Volunteers only] Remember that new social media accounts can only be made if:

    1. The global team is already using the platform (find our list of accounts here);

    2. You have a plan in place to make sure the platform does not go dormant; AND

    3. All passwords are held by multiple members of your country or caucus committee to keep from being locked out.

Graphic Design and Video Content

  1. [Global Comms Volunteers only] Ask to be added to the Content Creators Mighty Channel and/or the Video Team Signal chat.

  2. All new graphic designers/video editors: sign up for the next Brand Book and Visual Identity Workshop (published on the Comms Announcement Mighty).

  3. Video editors, watch the video training in the Training Materials of the Comms Wiki.

  4. Find your relevant DA logos (global, CC, caucus) and remember that using the global DA logo requires global Comms sign off.

  5. Remember to review the Brand Books and regularly refer to them.

  6. [Caucus and CC Volunteers only] Review the Canva templates produced by the Global graphics team - these are always available for you to use.

  7. [Caucus and CC Volunteers only] If you ever need help from the Global graphics team to produce a graphic, submit a work order form and we will reach out within 5 business days.

Press and Media

  1. Sign up for Spokesperson Training.

    1. Watch this video prior to attending the training.

    2. Read the companion guide prior to the training.

  2. Open and bookmark the Core DA Talking Points.

  3. Open and bookmark the Current Event Talking Points.

  4. Open and bookmark the DA Style Guide.

  5. Review the Media and Press section of our Comms Wiki for any further relevant documents.
